There are three major, super duper important pieces to my running kit that would be disastrous to screw up. The one I wanna discuss today is choice of sock. The importance of foot health in a 7200 km run cannot be overstated. Simply put, if my feet fail, I will fail and this speed attempt and everything it stands for will be all for not. The complex choice of what you slip over you foot in the morning has been one I have been toying with the last 12 years of my ultra running life. I have had my fair share of wins and loses but feel now that I have landed with a winning combination. First, lightly rubbing my foot down in Rungoo then using my 12 inch Swiftwick Socks. The wicking, lite, quality construction successfully walks the tightrope between too much movement and not enough making hotspots a thing of the past. I like the 12 inch sock as its compression technology aids in veinous return and adds support to my poor, tired tendons slamming the asphalt day after day.
The durability of these socks are also a huge selling feature. I will be only taking 6 pairs to cycle through. I would take fewer pairs if I knew we would be doing laundry more often but living out of an RV for the summer has its limitations and no, I will not be wearing a pair more then once before washing, that is just plain nasty!
Thank you Swiftwick for taking care of my ever important feet and for guiding me straight into the record books.
